"I am 74 years of age. I am now retired. My working life was office based. It also involved a lot of travel. I have always tried to keep fit with the focus being on running and recreational walking. In the last 15 years I have had two medical events which have involved surgery and hospitalisation. After the second medical event I realised I needed good advice to enable me to recover my fitness and strength. Please also note my working life involved the use of technology and a lot of stress. As a result my shoulders and neck subjected me to regular pain and discomfort. For the last ten years I have worked with a personal trainer on weekly basis at the gym at edgbaston priory club.
I am now in my second year of working with Laura Mas. My work with my first trainer was general cardio and strength work involving the whole of my body.
At my first assessment meeting with Laura I realised immediately she is an expert in her field. She is always calm and well organised and communicates very clearly. Our early work involved increasing my confidence in moving and using my body. the exercises I was introduced to were designed to strengthen the muscle groups in my torso and increase my flexibility.
For the first time in my life I understood how to engage my muscles in a way which stabilises my neck and shoulders.
As the first year unfolded Laura increased the intensity of the work I am doing in a measured and safe way. My primary exercise activity in any week is an hour with Laura and also a yoga session. On most days I undertake a stretching exercises and walking of variable lengths.
Finally and above all my use of pain relief for muscle and joint pain is now only occasional".

She has helped me with both isolation and dynamic exercises, with pilates and mobility, with core balance and with strength and stability. When I’ve picked up injuries playing sport Laura has responded with physiotherapy and rehabilitation to get me back to full fitness. "I have never tried yoga before and I was a little nervous - would I be at the same level as everyone else, would it just be too hard?
Laura has a gift of making you feel at ease from the moment you meet her and she reduced all my doubts and nerves. Laura is polite, warm and has a sense of humour with a voice that suits yoga well, being clear and soothing.
Yoga is very calming and relaxing but you do work your body hard without realising it (until the next day!). I also use the breathing technique at night, if I find it difficult to get to sleep and relax. I have also found that I am a lot more flexible now than I ever imagined. I think I have finally found my new exercise regime, thanks to Laura she has inspired me to continue my yoga journey."

During this time she has worked out a progressive programme with regular assessments, which have improved my suppleness, core strength and cardiac fitness. I have known Laura for about 4 years. Suffering from a tear in the rotator cuff and trying to avoid surgery, I had several courses of physiotherapy which certainly helped but I was still left with chronic pain and quite restricted movement. With Laura’s help, through a combination of deep tissue massage and targeted exercises to retrain and strengthen muscles in the shoulders and back, I am 95% better. My range of movement is more or less normal and I am pain free 90% of the time.
Laura has also helped with a hip and knee problem – again with a combination of targeted exercise and sports massage. I’ve been training with Laura Mas for nearly 8 years. Working with Laura my fitness and lifestyle goals became clearer. The main one was to establish a habit of regular exercise. I had often tried and failed to do this. With Laura this was achieved and now maintained over many years.
We have worked with great effect on my stamina, balance, flexibility and on injury prevention. She has also helped me to develop healthier eating habits. Her regular assessments of progress led to adjusting or replacing goals as life changed. Laura’s advice on any aches and injuries is excellent even when it has involved the foam roller!
